Provo, Utah. MLM Capital of the World.

It may sound a little crazy considering the number of MLM companies stationed in the state of Utah… but it’s true. There are far more failure stories than success stories coming from Utah and Salt Lake County than anywhere else in the world.

Why? Volume.

But volume is the name of the game, you say? Your right, but the volume of mlm companies in utah coupled with the number of open minded new distributors minus real marketing education leaves people devestated.

Let’s face the facts. MLM companies have no idea how to market. They create cookie cutter websites that are difficult to navigate, and have no search engine power to speak of – and they don’t know how to teach their new distributors how to do any marketing outside of contacting their friends and family again and again.

And bugging and begging is ENCOURAGED! (Huge turn off.)

All of this combined with the fact that nearly every person in the MLM Hometowns have already been contacted multiple times, by multiple different reps, regarding multiple different opportunities… and you have an “off the charts” failure rate.

Solution? Glad you asked.

I live in Utah. Yep. I’m speaking from personal experience. So the advice that I’m about to give has been tried and proven by yours truly and it comes down to the chance for every single solitary representative of any of the MLM companies in Utah to come out with a fantastic success story.

The solution is to learn sound marketing skills.

Skills that start with establishing yourself as a leader – not in your “company” but as yourself. A network marketing leader. Leave people asking what company you’re with. Shouting their name from the rooftops is not going to get your more distributors faster. I’d even go so far as to say you should see a standstill if you go that route.

Here’s a nutshell version of what knowledge you’ll need to aquire:

  • Copy writing skills – learn to write a good sales page so you can capture leads of your own who are already exposed to your name and leadership.
  • Traffic generation skills – I prefer low cost traffic generation – practically free is best. You can choose from about 100 + different traffic generation methods and master it. (Hint: go with article/content marketing. It’s easiest, and the least costly.)
  • Prospecting skills – you can’t get away with not talking to anyone. This is still network marketing. Get out there and network, and mastermind, and have a good time getting to know a LOT of new people. Facebook is a great place to connect one on one with your new leads. Or skype. (I personally prefer skype. You can import your facebook contacts into skype with the click of a button.)
  • Presenting skills – yep. You need to learn to do your own presentation webinars. It has to be done. There’s no way around it.
  • Recruiting skills – this is where you sign people up into your business. It’s what everything else was leading up to. Make sure you remember that. Don’t get scared and think it’s going to grow without recruiting.
  • Training skills – once your team has begun you have to teach them what you’ve done so they can do it too. It’s all about duplication!

Yes, there is certainly a learning curve. But the marketing that you need to learn is not that difficult. Don’t make it harder than it is and you’re going to do GREAT!
