We all want to make money. In this economy it’s a huge issue.

Yesterday I was filling up my gas tank, and I generally just do it without looking at the price. I happened to glance at it as I was waiting for the tank to fill… I couldn’t believe what I saw! Almost $4 per gallon?! That’s crazy talk.

It got me thinking about how it use to be. How it still IS for a lot of people out there… you need to make some money and you need to get on the ball fast.

This isn’t a hype session. I’m going to tell you the truth about what it takes to be successful in network marketing. But first, I want to make sure you understand how tough it is in the business world.

We’ve all heard it before. Most businesses (of any kind) fold within their first year. Why? Mostly a lack of marketing, or a lack of funds… mainly both.

I’ll tell you a story about a friend of my family who started a sprinkler supply company about 7 years ago. It’s a good example of what kind of funds it takes to get started in traditional business – I think you’ll get more out of it than that though.

The first thing he did was take out a huge loan. Over half a million just to build a building on commercially zoned property and more still to fill his shelves with sprinkler supplies to sell to the masses.

Then he hired staff and did a little bit of word of mouth marketing.

It wasn’t enough. The big names in the industry came after him and eventually squashed him like a bug. Not because he didn’t have what it took to succeed, but because he didn’t have a big enough marketing campaign to combat the competition.

Business is not for the faint of heart, my friend. It takes guts, and persistence… and GRIT.

Network marketing is, and has always been, the least pricey way to make money in business. The beauty is that your distributorship can be fueled however you choose to do it. Marketing is KEY in “network marketing”.

Here’s something that most new MLMers don’t quite understand though:

To make money in network marketing you have to build up a huge network of people who all use a product. That consistent product volume is the key to unlocking your own income potential.

It’s sad to me when I see newish marketers try it out for a few months and then, when they haven’t put for the right effort to recruit for their network they decide to get off of their auto-ship. It’s the first step to failure because it’s the first giant, red neon sign that that person is about to quit altogether.

You can’t turn off your lifeline. Yes, it benefits your upline to be on your auto-ship, but it benefits you too… IF you are ever going to do everything it takes to be a success story.

Don’t let this article daunt you. I didn’t write it to make you feel depressed. But you need to know that this is business. It won’t build itself – and no matter how many of your upline said they’ll build it for you that’s just not true.

Learn to promote. Learn to generate traffic to your webpages. Learn to generate leads, teach them, and talk to them one on one.

AND THEN… do what you just learned how to do!
