One of my first MLM experiences was with Mary Kay. I wore make-up. I thought I could sell it. Boy was I wrong!

My Mary Kay sales were in the toilet from day 1 and I don’t recall (this was 14 years ago) ever selling a single thing… to anyone. Even my family and friends.

Recently I was having a chat with one of the other moms at my sons private school, and we got onto the subject of what I do. She’s not interested in MLM anymore with 5 really young kids, but we had Mary Kay in common and she proceeded to tell me about her experience.

No Mary Kay Sales After 60 Parties in 1 Month!

I couldn’t believe it when she told me that. Well… actually… I did believe it. And I still believe it because what I know and what everyone else is being taught are so different.

You can’t succeed without credibility. And credibility comes from success.

Now, even though I was amazed that in one month and 60 “shows” my friend had almost no sales I know exactly what happened and why she failed.

Here’s the story. (I’m sure you’ve heard this one before.)

  • Sylvia signed up for Mary Kay and then went to a training meeting.
  • She then proceeded to take furious notes on what she was suppose to do and say so she could schedule lots and lots of shows fast because “these products sell themselves”.
  • Then she scheduled those parties and went to them by herself… fresh and new to her new “expertise”.
  • Apologetically she proceeded to show the products. All the time being so sorry that they were so pricey and unable to see any of her guests actually buying something of her because… it’s just expensive make-up, and how can she expect them to pay more than the grocery store and shipping to boot?

Yep. That’s why there were no sales.

Let me explain to you how this should have gone if someone in her upline had known anything about lending their credibility to my friend.

This Is How To Get More Mary Kay Sales.

  1. Get involved with an sponsor who has credibility, or has someone credible that they work with who will also help you.
  2. Schedule your shows. Follow up with your hostess and guests and get RSVPs.
  3. Bring your credible upline to all of the shows with you. Let her do the show until you feel confident (which lends you credibility automatically) that you are an expert in your field.
  4. Let them close the sales for you at the end of the party.
  5. Don’t imagine that people are going to chase you down to get an order form. Put one in their hand and ask them to fill it out.

It’s the credibility issue that is the most important. When you clearly have absolute confidence in what you are saying… that you are unquestionably an expert in you area of work… well, that’s when people feel good about buying product from you.
