Hello my friend and welcome to my blog. If I can help in any way, give me a ring at 801-473-6134. And remember, "The task ahead of you is never as great as the power behind you"

Blogging and SEO have become a highly popular form of traffic generation and content distribution over the past few years. The problem is… most people aren’t doing it right. Not because they don’t have a great desire to succeed, but because they don’t have all of the information. – and more particularly because the rules have recently changed with the 2011 Google Algorithm changes.

I admit that I was one of the many, many marketers effected by the changes because I wanted to cut out some steps and eliminate working any harder than I absolutely had to… and while what I was doing worked just fine before the changes, it turns out that it really hurt my business when things changed.

So this article is to help you avoid the blogging and SEO blunders that most people (including myself) are having to overcome now that the rules have changed.

  • Blunder #1: Not changing your blog permalinks to include your post/page title.

This didn’t usually make such a huge negative impact on results. In fact, it didn’t really matter much at all except that your posts might not have ranked as fast. Now it is a huge problem. So make sure when you set up your blog you are changing your permalinks to include the post title (which includes your keyword!) so that the search engines pick up on your keywords and rank you higher.

  • Blogging and SEO Blunder #2: Not respinning your articles to avoid duplicate content.

Even for me this has been a pain. Before the Google Algorithm changes this was a matter of preference. It would take a few more backlinks and some extra waiting but you could get your articles to rank just fine without respinning your content.

Now, however, if you have a lot of duplicate content pointing back to your pages then you are snubbed… big time.

For example: My pages went from being ranked in the early 200,000′s in Alexa and within about 3 months, because of the blunders that I’m laying out for you, my rankings had raced back to the 900,000′s and I had to completely start a new blog. (Not fun. Sorry if you have to do the same thing!)

  • Blogging and SEO Blunder #3: Broken “Follow” Links.

A follow link is just a link that the search engine spiders can crawl. You can insert the right code to make it a no-follow link and you’d be just fine if it’s broken… but if it’s a follow link and the search engine spiders try to crawl it and it comes up with an error then you’re going to lose points.

What you want to do to fix this problem is just get a plugin that checks your links daily. I use a plugin called “broken link checker” (or something like that) and it tells me how many broken links I have, and gives me the option to “unlink” them with the click of a button.

When you’re blogging and article marketing for SEO then you’ll get ping-backs (which are good) to your posted articles when you link back to your blog posts/pages. Not all article submission sites are going to stay in the game though so you’ll need to keep your eye out for broke ping-back links.
